Mantas Swim Club Weekly Update
Mantas Families,
Congrats to all who raced at the RSC Block Party #1 on Friday evening. It looks like a lot of fun was had by all.
Current Meet Registrations and deadlines
Meet information for the June 7-8 Storm Summer Slam at the University of MN will come out on Wednesday.
June 13-15 Summerfest Registration has been extended through tomorrow. This meet is held at the Rochester Rec Center for all ages and abilities.
June 26 – 29 Aquajet Spectacular registration deadline has been extended. This is a great qualifying meet for our fastest swimmers of all ages to test themselves before championship season.
TODAY is our entry deadline for the Mantas hosted Red, White, & Blue Invite, June 20 – 22, at Tourtellotte Pool in Mankato. This meet is open to swimmers of all abilities and is a great team event. This meet is 6 sessions starting on Friday afternoon. We will need lots of volunteers to fill all positions.
Mantas Swim Club hosts two meet during the summer. Our hosted meets are our best fundraisers. Between the June 20-22 Red, White, & Blue meet and the July Minnesota Regional Championships meet, July 18-20, we have 11 sessions of racing to fill. Manats Swim Club asks families to volunteer/work at 6 sessions of the 11. Sessions can be filled with multiple family members at a time to fulfill the requirement. Thank you for helping make our summer meets great events for our swimmers.
Mantas Senior groups at Tourtellotte Pool – Logistics
Today marks the first time Mantas swimmers will practice at Tourtellotte pool in over two years. There are rules we need to follow to make sure we can call Tourtellotte our home pool.
-
Swimmers/families need drop off/park in the parking lot on the northwest side of the facility. Swimmers will then walk on the sidewalk to the front doors. Please don’t drop off your swimmers at the front doors on Mabel Street. We want to keep all swimmers safe as they come and go.
-
All Mantas swimmers will receive a Mantas Tourtellotte Pool Pass. You’ll need this every time you come to the pool. Swimmers must have a Mantas pass and may use this pass at Tourtellotte at times other than practice all summer long.
-
Mantas parents are allowed in the facility to watch practices at Tourtellotte pool.
-
Mantas swimmers, coaches, & families need to care and respect the Tourtellotte facility, so it remains our home for a very long time.
Weather Policy
Now that a large portion of our team is training outdoors, we must always deal with weather.
When the weather is sunny and beautiful, we swim. Make sure your swimmers put on sunscreen as the water amplifies the sun and our kids get tan! When the weather is rainy, we still swim. I will state that again. When we have weather that is simply rainy and cloudy and a mix of both we are still in the water. The only people that are really bothered by the rain are the coaches because they aren't in the pool. (The pool is almost always warmer than the air in the morning hours.)
When there is Thunder and Lightning, we follow these rules. If we can see Lightning or hear Thunder at the pool, then we pull the athletes out of the water for 30 minutes from the last time we saw or heard it. Athletes and staff will stay in the bathhouse until our 30-minute break expires. If enough of our scheduled practice time remains, we’ll get back in the water as the weather dictates. This also means practice may be shortened at times due to weather.
If the lightning is persistent, before practice starts, and shows little to no signs of letting up, an email stating the status of practice will be sent out. There are times when a practice location will be changed, such as using the Gustavus Pool instead of Tourtellotte, if storms look persistent. Using a backup pool is not always an option, for scheduling reasons. Announcements will be made with enough notice to plan accordingly.
Emails and website announcements will be sent out with instructions on where the practice is located.
Please make sure that athletes know who to call in case of a shortened practice. We want all our swimmers to get home safely and not have to wait long after a shortened practice.
Finally! Here is our training schedule for the week.
